Prov 27:4 Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood, But who can stand before jealousy? (NASU)
Jealousy is not a fleeting emotion. It is a mindset. Wrath and anger are emotions that subside over time. Jealousy is a personality trait. This is why the scripture tells us that getting over jealousy is a little more difficult than getting over emotions.

Until writing this post, I have not thought about this scripture in this light. Why is it that jealousy is harder to shake than anger? In my opinion, it is about how fast you can change your perception about other people as opposed to how fast you can change your perception about yourself. Anger have more to do with another person's actions or statements or other circumstances out of our control. Barring an offense, overtime we are able to change our perspective about these people. However, it is very difficult for us to change our perspective about ourselves. After all we have been viewing ourselves in a certain light all our lives.

Jealousy is never about the other person. It is always about ourselves. Jealousy stems from how the happiness and success of another makes us feel about ourselves. If we can change our perspective about ourselves, we can overcome jealousy. If we can find contentment through Christ about where we are in life financially, or regarding relationships, or in our careers, it is only then we are able to not be jealous of other people who excel in these areas.

I've never fully grasped the concepts of jealousy and covetousness. In my self-conceit it was beneath me and in my inferiority it oppressed me.

All hail;
COVETOUS: inordinately or wrongly desirous of wealth or possessions; greedy. (Ex. 20:17; Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's ass...)
JEALOUS: characterized by or proceeding from suspicious fears of rivalry or envious resentment because of another's success, advantage, etc. Solicitous or vigilant in maintaining or guarding something: God is Jealous over Israel and His Glory (Deut. 6:15; 32:21; Is 48:11).

What has to proceed from head to heart is that: Comparing ourselves among ourselves is unwise (II Cor. 10:12); I am uniquely, fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14); What God has for me is for me; and that He has fore-ordained good works for me to walk in (Eph 2:10).

It's not about me. It's not about me in reference to you. It's about Him.
